Retailers and wholesalers of food products will often choose to purchase pickles and pickle products directly from the manufacturer because of the freshness and quality of pickled products they will usually carry. The term pickle is most commonly used to describe a cucumber that has been soaked and stored in a brine containing salt, vinegar or acid, although other types of vegetables can also be "pickled" such as olives, capers, and onions. Pickled products are often desirable because the pickling process can often help preserve otherwise perishable foods and improve their shelf life. Manufacturers of pickled products will usually bottle their products directly after they have been pickled.
